About Dr. Neel
Dr. Neel grew up in Atlanta. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia in 1975 and, after teaching special education for three years in Greensboro, NC, received her master's in education in 1979 and her doctorate of philosophy in 1982 from the University of Georgia. Dr. Neel and her husband, John, Have been married for 27 years and have two adult children. Dr. Neel worked as a psychologist for the Wake County School System before beginning her private practice here in the Triangle, in 1982. The office is located within the office of Atrium Obstetrics & Gynecology, where she works closely with Atrium's medical providers to ensure that the needs of the "whole" woman are addressed effectively. She has a particular affinity for the challenges facing today's women, whether they are married, single and/or parents. Dr. Neel is licensed as a psychologist and certified as a Health Services Provider - Psychologist (HSP-P) - by the North Carolina Psychology Board. She is also a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. Dr. Neel is a certified sex therapist by the American Board of Christian Sex Therapists and the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. Practice Standards
Dr. Neel subscribes to and works according to the ethical standards of psychologists (www.apa.org), sex therapists (www.aasect.org), and Christian Counselors (www.aacc.net). She continues to develop her skills and abilities through appropriate educational and training experiences offered through certified organizations, researchers and practitioners. Dr. Neel also participates in peer supervision with other mental health providers in the community.
